PRE-COLUMBIAN MEXICO

ITINERARY

Day 1  

Flight to Mexico. Arrival in Mexico City. Transfer to Hotel. Dinner and accommodation.  

Day 2 

After breakfast we visit the Sanctuary of the Virgin of Guadalupe. We continue our trip to the famous pyramids of Teotihuacan, where we visit the Temple of the Sun, the Temple of the Moon, the Temple of Quetzalcoatl. We have dinner in the area, and later in the evening we return to the hotel. Accommodation.  

Day 3  

Breakfast. Tour of Mexico City. We visit  the majestic Cathedral, the monumental Presidential Palace and downtown, the Plaza de Armas. We visit one of the most famous museums in the world, the Museum of History and Anthropology, were we can see objects from prehispanic times. At the end of the day we take a ride through the ancient canals of Xochimilco listening to mariachi and tasting tequila, the national drink of Mexico. Dinner and accommodation.  

Day 4

Breakfast. Travel to the colonial city of Taxco, famous for its workshops and stores of silver. We take a walk through the beautiful streets and plazas and visit the baroque jewel, the church of Santa Prisca and Saint Sebastian. Free time to visit the silver stores. Transfer to the famous Pacific resort, Acapulco. Hotel all-inclusive.

Day 5

Acapulco ? all inclusive. Free time on the beach. Optional excursions available.  

Day 6

Breakfast. Early morning departure from Acapulco to Puebla. On the way, we visit the pre-Columbian center in Xochicalco. Dinner and overnight in Puebla. 

Day 7

Breakfast. Visit the most Spanish city of Mexico, Puebla: the Old Town, the church of St. Dominic, the Cathedral. Ride past the symbol of the conquest,  the pyramid in Cholula, to a nearby village church in Tonantzintla. Arrival to Oaxaca. An evening walk around the city center. Dinner and overnight. 

Day 8

Breakfast. Travel to Monte Albán, where we find the ruins of the antique capital of the Zapotecs and Mitla. We visit the oldest three of Tule and we visit an artisanal factory of mezcal, the most typical beverage of the region. At last we have some free time at a local market. In the evening we travel through the mountains for dinner and accommodation in Tehuantepec.  

Day 9

Breakfast. Today we get to know the State of Chiapas, famous for its nature, and Indian cultures. We start with the amazing boat tour through the Sumidero Canyon, where we see the rich plant and animal life of the region. Visit San Juan Chamula, an Indian town, to get to know some Mayan traditions. At the end of the day we walk through the stoned streets of the colonial jewel of San Cristobal de las Casas. Dinner and accommodation.   

Day 10

Breakfast. Visit the town of Zinacantan. Travel through the tropical jungle to the waterfalls of Agua Azul. Where we have free time for a walk or to swim in the blue water of this river. Then we admire the magnificent waterfall Misol - Ha integrated into the jungle. Ride to Palenque. Dinner and accommodation.  

Day 11 

Early morning drive to the border river separating Mexico from Guatemala. On the way, breakfast in the jungle. Visit the sunken city of Yaxchilan, which can only be reached by boat. Return to Palenque. Visit the Mayan buildings in Palenque, scattered in the jungle: the Temple of the Inscription, the Temple of the Cross, the Temple of the Sun. Dinner and overnight. 

Day 12

Early Breakfast. We travel to the Yucatan peninsula and visit the archeological site of Uxmal, which is considered one of the most important archaeological sites of Maya culture with its famous cylindrical pyramid, discovering the Monastery and the Governors palace. In the afternoon we walk through the colonial streets of Merida - the cultural capital of the entire Yucatan peninsula. Dinner and accommodation.  

Day 13

Breakfast. Travel to the archeological site of Chichén Itzá which represents the remains of one of the largest and most powerful city states of the pre-Columbian Americas and is one of the 8 Wonders of the Modern World. Later we travel to Cancun/Playa del Carmen with long, silky ribbons of beaches and amazingly blue Caribbean Sea. Hotel all-inclusive.  

Day 14

Free time on the beach. Optional excursions. 

Day 15

Free time on the beach. In the afternoon transfer to the airport for departure to Mexico City and then back home.
